  3. My name is Jamie I have been struggling with anxiety for over 20 years now. I was anxious when the sars crises came out in 2003. After the sars pandemic I have never been the same after being so anxious of going outside. I have develop panic attacks for over 20 years now. I have been having trouble sleeping.   6. This is possibly a naive question and certainly not meant to be disrespectful. May I ask, why does this type of practitioner wear the heart/lung listening apparatus around the neck, even when there are no patients in attendance, about to receive attention? From an anthropological perspective we could class it as a kind of amulet, providing esoteric power and function for the initiate/wearer, whilst simultaneously providing a visual token of their priestly elevation. This phenomenon has taken many and varied forms through all of history. And consistently throughout history the contemporary audience are almost universally enamored of the powers that such amulets represent (and perhaps possess). Once again, the comments section is a wealth of wonderful anecdotes. And thank you Erik for an excellent and well organized overview.

  7. I literally do everything on this list almost every day and I still have issues. Trying to make other people happy by working toward their goals and not your own can really make this worse. Just thought I’d share that because most of mine comes from my work. I love exercise and often do 2-2.5 hours ever evening which feels fantastic and makes crushes my anxiety but waking up every morning to face the work day its always back again.

  8. Meds don’t do sh*t, apart from making me fat, and stopping me from falling asleep. REM sleep especially. I’d rather drink some kava. I just want to get off the damn meds. Cymbalta, Lexapro, and Effexor so far.

  24. My doctor has suggested kava, melatonin, valerian, or passion flower. He says the placebo effect can be very powerful. Not much success so far. I have a great doctor. He has also stated that prayer may help.
